COACH BETSY IS A ROCKSTAR!

After the 2020 CrossFit Open, Betsy sits in 36th place out of ~6,500 worldwide in the 40-44 age group! This is her fourth qualifier, with her best result last year landing her at 16th worldwide, just six spots from the CrossFit Games! Betsy does this FOR FUN, her health, and to be a role model for her kids. Please join us in wishing her good luck as she tackles the age-group qualifier workouts today through Monday!

UPDATE ABOUT THE CORONAVIRUS AND GYM HYGIENE:

We want you to know that we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely and are following the protocols set forth by Marin County governing bodies. We currently have no plans to close the gyms, unless we are mandated to do so.

We are also closely in touch with infectious disease experts as we continue to implement strict cleaning practices at all of our gyms and encourage all employees and members to stay home if they are feeling any symptoms of any kind. Please do keep yourself away from the community if you are ill in any way. We appreciate that in “normal” times, as well!

As it turns out, staying healthy and fit is arguably the best way to boost one’s immune system and counter stress, so we encourage you keep moving, get plenty of rest, and do some deep breathing during these chaotic times. We are here and proceeding with normal gym operations, emphasizing hand-washing and other good hygiene.

If you are in a high-risk group, including being over age 70 or with a compromised immune system for any reason, it is probably best to stay home. We encourage you to seek advice from your medical professional when weighing your options. We are currently preparing online bodyweight workouts to roll out should we need to, and we will email you all if and when we decide to go with that content, even if our doors remain open while doing so.

We continue to encourage you to choose the official website of the Centers for Disease Control or the World Health Organization for getting accurate and up-to-date information about the virus. Some reminders for you to help keep us all free from COVID-19 and other viruses:

*WASH HANDS THOROUGHLY AND FREQUENTLY AND AVOID HAND-TO-FACE CONTACT.

*STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK. PLEASE DON’T COME TO THE GYM SNEEZING AND COUGHING ALL OVER THE EQUIPMENT AND EVERYONE ELSE.

*USE THE DISINFECTANT WIPES WE HAVE IN THE GYMS TO WIPE DOWN YOUR STUFF AFTER USING IT.

Message from TJ

If you haven't listened to the Joe Rogan podcast from Tuesday I highly recommend it. Michael Osterholm is an infectious disease epidemiologist.  Here is the YouTube link:

Joe Rogan Experience #1439 - Michael Osterholm

What I found most interesting was this: Being obese is just as much of a risk factor as smoking and being very old. What do all of these risk groups have in common? They are all metabolically deficient or damaged. These three categories of people are hormonally deficient, or the hormones that are supposed to be supporting anabolic or growth systems are pulled away to fight against catabolic or damaged systems.

In such cases, lean body mass, cardio pulmonary systems, and brain function are all left to the wolves as the body fights against the chronic, often self-imposed diseases of hyper-insulinemia, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

So what he is saying (which is consistent with what most infectious disease specialists are saying) is that the strong and healthy will have little problem with the coronavirus, while the weak and compromised are at great risk. This doesn’t mean I’m saying it’s nothing to worry about. That is NOT my point. My point is to remind us all of the many gifts of health and fitness.

The number-one thing I have heard from our members this week is, "Please don't close." This brings such joy to me, because it means that people get it.

Continue to push the rock up the hill. Continue to grind. Keep being strong. Don't get distracted by information that doesn't pertain to you. Of course, if you are in a high-risk group, or if you are feeling sick at all, please reach out to your medical professional and let us know if there’s anything we can do to help you.

We will continue to keep our cleaning staff on point. We ask that you to be diligent with the wiping down of your equipment and the washing of your hands and the staying home if you are sick. Once again, if you are in a high-risk group, including being over age 70 or having a compromised immune system for any reason, it might be best to stay home. We encourage you to seek advice from your medical professional when weighing your options.

Communities are hugely important factors in psychological and physical well-being. We need each other more than ever at crazy times like this one. As always, we hope to do our part in helping you de-stress, connect, and fight for your fitness and health.

Be well!

TJ

SADly, we are cancelling the rodeo!

Given County Health protocols for limiting nonessential indoor gatherings of more than 100 people, we will not be having the Rodeo as planned. We will revisit the event once the dust settles.
