OVERCOMING FEARS.

We all have them. Noemi was afraid to join the gym back before she took the plunge SIX YEARS AGO! On the other side of fear is often growth—the best kind. Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel: On the Basis of Sex: Girls' Baseball (Full Segment) | HBO

It tells the story of how and why girls were not allowed to play little league baseball. In 1972 a girl named Maria Peppi wanted to play baseball. The National Little League Association freaked out after she played three games. The solution was that the LLA introduced softball. Just to keep girls out of baseball.

This story made me tear up.
Fast forward to today, and we have teen girls crushing boys in national tournaments. Eventually, baseball will be coed. Face it. It's going to happen. If the athlete wants to, they will. Maybe not today, but eventually. Stomp your feet, gnash your teeth, but face it, in your lifetime it's going to happen. We made it complicated through reasoning that eventually would become extinct.

Let's change the scenario but use the same reasoning structure, applied to losing weight. Early on, we discovered that the human emotion was a great way to make money. Finance, retail, real estate, etc. since the dawn of time have relied on the way people feel to create a profit, and to this day rely on emotion to drive consumption.

The weight-loss industry is no different. How many different ways have we seen marketers try to convince us to lose weight while also convincing us to part with our hard-earned dollars? From the vomitoriums of ancient Rome to Liposuction. We could all rattle off ten different plans from our own experience.

The problem with marketing this stuff is that it's competing against SCIENCE.

The science of weight loss is easy. Consume fewer calories than you burn, and you will lose weight. If you are active, most of that weight will come from stored bodyfat. Simple as that.

What if we leapt straight to this plan, instead of buying into a dozen others right from jump street, instead of distracting ourselves with bullshit for decades, only to come to the realization that I'm going to succeed by doing the obvious thing?

Just like keeping girls out of baseball.
