TJ's Gym Weekly News 5/17/2020
“TJ’s has been a part of Jack’s life since he was old enough to remember. At first it was just sitting in a corner and wondering why his parents were killing themselves, later it was kids classes, and then finally he was out there killing himself and wondering why the heck he was doing it. Well it’s all going to pay off now, because he has landed an appointment to Virginia Military Institute. There he will spend 4 years in academic studies, military training, and constant physical exertion. It’s kind of like the OG CrossFit, with lots of long-range hiking with big packs thrown on top. There’s a reason the military loves CrossFit so much, just like we love TJ’s so much. It has been a great influence on the Wyatt family. Thank you.” -Whitney and Gina
MESSAGE FROM ALLISON AND TJ
We’ve been getting a new wave of outreach from current and former members this week, asking for help. If you haven’t been plugging into Zoom classes or using our at-home workouts and you’re feeling some inertia around getting into a routine, rest assured you’re not alone!
We all hear a lot of advice these days that is one version or another of “Be kind to yourself. These are tough times.” We couldn’t agree more. But being kind to yourself isn’t about consuming whatever you want and lying around on the couch all day, or sitting at a computer with bad posture but not beating yourself up about it, because, after all, SIP is hard.
A little of that off-the-hook mentality is totally appropriate, but problems happen when that’s all you do and you hang onto the “I’m just being kind to myself” mantra. It’s time to take back control of your self-care, and that includes regular exercise and mostly good nutrition choices.
We have two teens in our house, and like most parents, we’re trying to balance letting them do whatever they want within the constraints of sheltering in place and encouraging them to workout, drink plenty of water, and sleep enough. This is the balance you need to find for yourself.
So, cut yourself some slack because, after all, this is a pandemic and it’s stressful, but make sure you don’t sacrifice your physical and mental health in the process. Towards this end, we are adding programs every week to help you stay on track. We’ve got lots of at-home options and are constantly customizing new plans, so let us know how we can help you, your kids, your parents, and your friends. New this week is our re-entry/easy access for all levels weekly bodyweight program AND our home-gym design services. See below and reach out for help!
Meanwhile, we’re working with County public health officials to get approval for in-person outdoor workouts and personal training, both of which can be done safely and in keeping with county guidelines. We will keep you posted as these opportunities develop and can’t wait to see you all in person!
Stay well!
Allison and TJ
