What's Your One Big Thing?

Congrats to the Class of 2022, including the graduate in our house! You can see our TJ’s Gym Class of 2022 on our social channels. Also, read this week’s newsletter here.

Here’s TJ’s blog for the week:

Here’s a funny story.

I wrote this entire blog, hit something accidentally, and it got deleted.

It’s been a week.

Jersey wedding into graduation week into Uncle Covid visiting the house has caused me to be performing let’s say, less than optimal.

I wanted to smash my computer into the kettlebell rack.

But I didn’t, because I not only wanted to share my plan with you, I wanted to tell you the story about the stupid fox and the stupid hedgehog.

The fox is good at a lot of stuff and, therefore, he is distracted by all that stuff.

The hedgehog is good at one thing. Staying alive.

Therefore, he is excellent at that one thing.

Intermittently, I have taken time to improve my health.

All in.

No booze, sugar, or processed foods.

Then, I would tell myself that if I was going through all that trouble, I might as well increase my fitness, meditation, and lifestyle efforts.

And if I was going to be that dialed in, I should launch a new program at the gym, increase my workload, and crack open a book that required my full attention.

No more Arnold autobiographies.

When I look back on these times, I realize that, while I was successful with the goal, I was a cranky douchebag much of the time.

Earlier this year, I kept it simple for a few months.

Eat clean. No junk. No booze.

Guess what? It was tough.

I was stressed out.

Next January when I do that, I’ll take this into account, and I’ll keep it simple.

Just clean up, and plan for nothing.

Life will throw you all the punches you can handle.

Realize it will be stressful and roll with it.

I guess I’m asking you to take on a hedgehog challenge: Keep it simple, make a goal, and when you catch yourself piling other things on top of it, stop.

Keep the main thing the main thing.

It’s rare that we get the opportunity to chose to be uncomfortable.

Take advantage of it. I’m here to help if you need it.
